The company from the biomedical district has started work on expanding its facility, aiming at new products and increased production capacity.

Medolla (MO), June 4, 2025 – Work has begun on the expansion of the Eurosets production facility, a company based in the biomedical district of Modena and part of GVM Care & Research.
The approved strategic plan includes a €24 million investment for the expansion of the facility, with construction expected to last around 17 months (completion is scheduled by 2026).
Currently, the Eurosets plant covers 11,500 square meters, to which an equal area will be added, doubling the total surface area to 23,000 square meters. The expansion involves all sectors: from the raw materials warehouse to a new clean room covering approximately 1,200 square meters, and the assembly department for electromedical equipment. A new research and development department will also be created—considered the beating heart of the company, which has always focused on technological innovation and meeting emerging market needs.

Eurosets’ production will not experience any slowdowns during the construction period, thanks also to the production site launched just over a year ago in San Giacomo Roncole, a district of the Municipality of Mirandola. In terms of employment impact, the project foresees an increase in workforce over the next three years, from the current 400 employees to around 600.

“This project will enable Eurosets to achieve the revenue growth outlined in our five-year strategic plan, and most importantly, to expand our current product portfolio in the cardiopulmonary (CPB) and extracorporeal life support (ECLS) fields, which are receiving very positive feedback from the market,” said Antonio Petralia, Executive Vice President and CEO of Eurosets.

“This is not only an industrial milestone, but also a symbol of strategic collaboration between the two core pillars of our Group: GVM Care & Research—with its network of hospitals, researchers, and healthcare professionals—and Eurosets, a manufacturing and technological excellence in the field of electromedical devices,” commented Ettore Sansavini, President of GVM Care & Research. “This is a truly integrated ecosystem, where clinical research and biomedical engineering feed into and enhance each other synergistically. We firmly believe that true innovation arises from the meeting of those who provide care and those who design. From those who face the complexity of illness every day, and those who work to provide ever more effective, safe, and sustainable tools.”

A concrete example is the development of extracorporeal life support (ECLS) devices, capable of temporarily replacing the function of the heart and/or lungs. These so-called “life-saving” devices are increasingly being used in intensive care units to treat the most severe cases of respiratory or cardiac failure.

An area will also be dedicated to training courses for healthcare professionals and for personnel responsible for the maintenance of medical equipment. This space will be equipped with special simulators capable of reproducing real-life scenarios.

The architectural style of the current facility will be maintained: inaugurated just nine years ago after the post-earthquake reconstruction, the building was already designed with innovative solutions focused on environmental sustainability. With this new expansion, part of the new facility will be classified as energy class A3, featuring LED lighting, a rainwater recovery system to supply a nearby irrigation channel, and a major photovoltaic system of over 300 kW.

“This is a project that also considers key aspects such as social sustainability, an area in which Eurosets has distinguished itself in recent years through initiatives supporting the local area. For this reason, the company has decided—where possible and in compliance with technical specifications—to give priority to local contractors to support the local economy. We have always believed in the potential of this region, despite the adversities and challenges we’ve faced in the past. That’s why, after the 2012 earthquake, we chose not to relocate elsewhere. Today, we can say that the decision was the right one, and we also believe that involving local construction firms in this project is equally a winning choice,” concluded Petralia.

The following companies, organized as a Temporary Grouping of Companies (ATI), signed the agreement: EDIL.CAM S.r.l. from Cavezzo (MO) for construction and architectural work, TRUZZI S.p.A. from Poggio Rusco (MN) for the prefabricated building including foundations, ERMATECH S.r.l. from San Prospero (MO) for mechanical works, and SIEL IMPIANTI S.r.l. from Sustinente (MN) for electrical systems. Architectural design and construction management have been entrusted to Inhabito studio in Medolla (MO).
